Head lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata) ranks among the most widely cultivated vegetable crops in global agriculture. In the context of a dynamically evolving market, quality requirements for finished products are becoming increasingly stringent, which necessitates the continuous search for and introduction of new cultivars that combine superior organoleptic and commercial traits with resistance to abiotic and biotic stressors. In this regard, systematic cultivar testing remains a critical task, as its outcomes provide a scientifically substantiated basis for renewing the varietal assortment of cultivated crops. A comprehensive comparative evaluation of head lettuce cultivars was conducted based on a set of economically valuable traits, taking into account the requirements of processing enterprises and retail chains. The specific objectives of the study included the assessment of productive and morphological parameters, the identification of the most uniform and technologically suitable forms, and the calculation of their economic feasibility. The experimental material comprised 10 iceberg-type head lettuce cultivars. The cultivar Diamond (bred by ENZA ZADEN) was used as the standard (control). Field trials were established in 2024…2025 under open-ground conditions at the production facility of Moscow Oblast, Dmitrovsky Urban District. The enterprise specializes in commercial open-field lettuce production, predominantly of the iceberg type. During the growing season, phenological observations were carried out, head weight records were taken, plant uniformity was assessed (based on the coefficient of variation), and the length of the internal stem (core) was measured as a parameter affecting waste volume during processing. Statistical data processing was performed using standard analysis of variance (ANOVA) methods. Phenological observations revealed that the duration of the growing period across the studied cultivars ranged from 64 to 74 days. The dates of uniform emergence and the appearance of the first true leaf were consistent among all genotypes, whereas the onset of technical maturity varied considerably, indicating genetically determined earliness in certain forms.
