The practical results of cooperation between the Institute of Vegetable Growing – a branch of the FNCO and the company «Search» in tomato breeding are presented: the first varieties of this crop suitable for mechanized harvesting using the marker feature «peduncle without articulation» (gene j-2) – Krasnodar, Baltimore, Kuban, Voskhod, Award, Stanichnik, Kuban Cossacks, – as well as varieties and hybrids of salad type of different maturation period for vegetable growers of the south of Russia, Moscow region and Chernozem region, bred using marker signs of plants, fruit and peduncle, characterized by good fruit quality and possessing a complex of economically useful signs – varieties Dachnik, Zvezda, Gift of Kuban, Pilot, Pioneer, Pet of the Moscow region and heterosis hybrids F1 Luck, F1 Golubchik, F1 Vegetable Grower's Treasure, F1 Yunus, Swarthy suburban, etc. The results of studies proving the high efficiency and economic feasibility of the use of parent forms-bs and bs-2 gene carriers and the use of bumblebees for cross-pollination are presented.Promising directions of tomato breeding in Russia are given: selection of high-yielding varieties and hybrids of different maturation periods, for fresh consumption, with high taste and technological qualities, relatively resistant to a complex of diseases, suitable for industrial cultivation technology; selection of varieties and lines with marker signs of plants, fruits and peduncles to create heterotic hybrids with high quality of fruits for open and protected soil through the introduction of new, more modern methods of hybrid seed production; selection of high-yielding heterotic hybrids of different maturation periods, with good quality fruits resistant to a complex of diseases, for various cultivation structures of protected soil, as well as the search for breeding techniques to reduce the cost of production of hybrid seeds.

Key words: tomato, selection, variety, hybrid, genetic marker.
