The cultivation of pest-resistant varieties is of great importance in the protection of potato plantations from the Colorado potato beetle Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) as the main pest of this crop. The field methods of selecting such varieties require improvement. In 2024-2025, the resistance of 30 potato varieties to the pest was studied in the conditions of the Leningrad Region on the experimental fields of VIZR and AFI using a comprehensive approach. In the AFI field, where there was a natural hearth of the Colorado potato beetle, resistant varieties were selected in two ways: 1) according to the criteria of the number of overwintered beetles, egg clutches, beetles of the 1st generation per 100 bushes, the proportion (%) of bushes with larvae and the degree of damage to the tops in points; 2) separately according to the criterion of damage to the tops in points in its dynamics according to 5 records from July to August. 24 potato varieties were studied on the VIZR field with their artificial infestation by larvae of the first instar. The criteria for indicating resistant varieties in this experiment are: the duration of preimaginal development of individuals, % of surviving larvae of age IV, % of winged beetles to the number of planted larvae. With any of these approaches, the experimental data was processed using the «sum of ranks» method: all the studied varieties were ranked according to the values of the corresponding criteria, and the resistance index was calculated for each variety. The coincidence of the characteristics (gradations) of resistance of varieties determined by different groups of criteria is 65-85%. According to the combined results of two years of evaluation using various field methods, the following potato varieties are the most resistant to the Colorado potato beetle: Bellarosa, Berkut, Grenader (identified for the first time), Baltic Rose, Gusar, Nayada, Red Fantasy, Sirenevy Tuman and Fidelia. These varieties can serve as the basis for integrated potato protection systems that meet environmental safety requirements.
