Increasing the diversity of green crops, due to the use of new head salads in the production, is an urgent task of vegetable growing today. A significant increase in the area for lettuce is associated with the advantages of this crop. In addition to high nutritional advantages, lettuce is one of the most precocious vegetable crops. However, there are certain subtleties and nuances in the cultivation technology, without knowledge and observance of which it is difficult to achieve high yields and obtain high-quality marketable products. The assortment of lettuce is constantly being updated, breeding firms around the world are creating new varieties and hybrids with different leaf color, shape and weight of the head, resistance to internal necrosis and false powdery mildew, as well as with different growing seasons. Therefore, the evaluation of varieties and the selection of the most suitable for cultivation in specific conditions is an urgent task. The article presents the results of a two-year evaluation of five F1 hybrids of head lettuce selected by Rijk Zwaan in the open ground when grown in two turns, presents the methodology and recommendations for growing modern varieties of head lettuce, an assessment is given on the main economically valuable characteristics. It is shown that in the second turn, the average head weight and yield of all F1 hybrids significantly decreases, which may be due to high air temperature, lack of moisture in the soil and damage by diseases, among which mucosal bacteriosis can be considered the most harmful. At the same time, a different varietal reaction was revealed in the studied hybrids: the F1 hybrid Jasperinas was most affected by the disease, and the F1 hybrid Izanas demonstrated the greatest resistance. In both years of the study and in both revolutions, the maximum head weight and yield were found in the hybrid Isanas, which can be recommended for cultivation in the conditions of the Moscow region.
